HOW TO STAY WARM IN A COLD BASEMENT.

While you’re sitting and wondering why your basement is so cold? Your basement is expected to be significantly more relaxed than other areas of your home as it’s below ground and surrounded by cool earth.

Follow this guide to learn how to stay warm in a cold basement and start feeling nice and cozy all season!

Seal Air Leaks -Basement air leaks are typical and, unfortunately, can contribute to less heat. Air is susceptible to escaping through doors, window frames, and rim joists.

The sealant used when building the home can crack over time, so it’s recommended to reseal windows and doors roughly every five years. Select a sealant to choose the foam base. It’s a superior insulator, better than silicone, and you can even paint right over it.

INSTALL CARPETS/RUGS AND LVT FLOORING

Are you wondering why your basement floor is so cold? More than 10% of heat loss in a home is through the floor and foundation. A thick,- well-crafted rug will retain more heat than cold concrete or wood flooring, and as a plan, it won’t be so hard on the feet. Cold feeling, dampness seeps into the floor, and
moisture because concrete is so porous. If your basement takes water during rainstorms or the post-winter, consider opting for a rug rather than permanently installing wall-to-wall carpeting.

CHECK INSULATION

There are a few areas of focus on how to insulate a basement. These include walls, ducts, and rim joists. Ensure all external basement and first-floor walls are directly above because cold air travels down while hot air rises are adequately insulated. Fiberglass insulation is best when it comes to insulating wood walls.

Properly insulating air ducts is also an essential step in warming the basement. The ducts are typically thin metal sheets that transport air throughout the home. The existing duct can be wrapped with insulation tape.
Rim joists are often overloaded when it comes to insulation; The headers and rim joists make up the floor, and the roof separates the basement from the first floor. If this area has enough insulation, your home will hold heat much better.

USE A SPACE HEATER

Using a space heater will certainly help warm up your basement, but it is expensive and requires a lot of energy. Also, there is the risk of fire that accompanies these devices. But this solution only works as a temporary fix.

ADD MORE HEAT DUCTS

Adding a heat vent in the basement is another option to blow warm air during the colder months.
